HCSD Emergency Day Update

Dear HCSD Families,

As we continue through the winter season, I want to provide a brief update regarding emergency/snow days for this school year.

To date, the District has used five (5) of our six (6) allotted emergency days built into the 2025-2026 school calendar. We are currently seeking a waiver to return a day to our allotment because of the recent State of Emergency issued by Governor Hochul on Monday, February 23, 2026. In essence, we could have two remaining emergency days to work with in the calendar should we need to close school.

If we go beyond the allotted emergency days, we will pivot to a remote learning day. Instruction would take place live and online, and students would follow their regular school schedules from home. Building principals will be following up with more specific details regarding expectations and access procedures in advance of any remote day.

As always, families will be notified through our automated calls/texts, email, and website postings regarding any weather-related changes.

We appreciate your continued flexibility and partnership in helping us maintain continuity of learning for our students.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school directly.

Sincerely,

Joel E. Freer
Superintendent of Schools
